AL FEREEJ
Public Art Installation by Bachir Mohamad | 2024
Wall Mural with Hand-Casted Bronze
Unique Edition1/1
Location: Old Doha Port
Nestled in the heart of Old Doha Port, Al Fereej is a unique interactive art installation that brings together mural art and sculptural elements to celebrate the everyday stories of a traditional Qatari neighborhood.
The artwork, painted on the walls of a vibrant passage, features a dreamy sky filled with birds in motion, a radiant full moon casting its glow over perched silhouettes, and an open birdcage—a poetic symbol of freedom and movement. Complementing the mural, bronze sculptures of cats, frozen mid-step in their curious hunt, create a strikingly lifelike illusion. These sculptural elements seamlessly blend with the painted scene, inviting passersby to engage, observe, and even interact with the artwork.
Al Fereej reflects the intimate connection between urban spaces and the natural rhythms of daily life. The birds, both painted and sculpted, symbolize resilience, migration, and the idea of home, while the playful presence of the cats adds a whimsical yet deeply rooted cultural touch.
This installation serves as a reminder of the charm and nostalgia of Doha's historic neighborhoods, where the sounds of cooing pigeons and the quiet stalking of street cats are woven into the fabric of everyday life. It encourages interaction and contemplation, making Al Fereej not just an artwork but an experience—one that bridges past and present in a space that continues to evolve.,
