EMPOWERMENT

Empowerment is a visual dialogue between tradition and modernity, honoring the strength, resilience, and evolving role of women in Qatari society. The installation merges historical symbolism with contemporary expression, presenting a powerful message of self-belief and identity.

At its core, the installation features a traditional Qatari women’s bisht, a garment of dignity and authority, reinterpreted as a structured centerpiece. Embroidered with golden stitch motifs, it becomes a visual representation of empowerment, signifying strength within cultural heritage. Draping outward from the bisht, flowing black abaya fabrics extend forming a Qatari dhow, symbolizing movement, progression, and the limitless potential of women as they step into leadership while preserving their roots.

Above, a striking chandelier of aluminum and brass Burqu’ Rayyasi masks—historically worn by Qatari women—hangs in suspended motion, evoking a sense of honor, resilience, and the shifting perception of tradition. Cast in metal, these masks reflect endurance and adaptability, reinforcing the idea that heritage is not static but evolving with time.

This installation reflects a message as a tribute to Qatari women as the backbone of society. Empowerment celebrates their journey, encouraging them to embrace their roles with confidence, knowing they are efficient, professional, optimistic, and strong:
