Unique Edition 1/1
Recycled Solid Pine Wood in Natural Lacquer / Gold Leaf / White / Burgundy, Base in Grey Finish
Dimensions vary (Approx. W 20cm x D 20cm x OAH up to 45.5cm),
The Hassala Money Box Collection (2018) is a refined continuation of the Hassala Bench (2016), first introduced at the Tafaseel Design Showcase. While the original bench explored the concept of saving as a communal and interactive experience, this collection shifts the narrative to a more intimate, personal engagement, transforming the everyday piggy bank into a sculptural design object.
Crafted from recycled solid pine wood, each money box is finished in a variety of materials— including natural lacquer, gold leaf, white, and burgundy—and set on a grey metal base for a contemporary contrast. The engraved Arabic text “﷼ حصالة درھم و ” reinforces cultural ties to traditional savings practices, reinterpreting an object of financial discipline into an aesthetic, collectible piece.
As part of the 12/120 Exhibition at al markhiya gallery in Katara Art Center, this exclusive, oneof- one limited edition collection bridges art, design, and economic mindfulness, turning the act of saving into a deliberate, conscious ritual. The shift in scale—from the large Hassala Bench to these compact, functional money boxes—allows for a more personal connection, where individuals engage with the object as both a functional savings tool and a conceptual artwork.
By reimagining the Hassala as an object of heritage and contemporary design, this collection ensures that traditional saving habits remain relevant in a modern context. Through its material choices, symbolic engraving, and sculptural presence, Hassala serves as a tangible reflection of cultural memory, transforming everyday habits into meaningful experiences.
